From NBC News "The [chaldean] woman, who asked not be identified, re-counted what happened Tuesday night when she was assaulted in her first-story apartment in the 500 block of E. Lexington Avenue. She said she thought she was dreaming when she suddenly saw a man appear in her living room.
“This guy's come in and going to kill me and he put something on my mouth and I say, ‘Oh my God, this is not dream. This is real," the victim told NBC 7/39.
The victim said she had just settled in to watch TV with a cup of tea.
“I'm watching a show on TV. I'm drinking tea and I see this guy is here,” said the victim. “He pushes me, and tells me to shut up. He says, 'Shut up and come with me in the room.'"
The victim’s daughter heard the struggle in the living room, and rushed in from another part of the house to see what was going on.
“I saw the burglar choking my mom with a knife in his hand,” said the victim’s daughter, who also asked not be identified. “He stabbed her on the side and I was just really scared when I saw that. I was screaming and I said, ‘Hey,' and he left," the girl said.
The daughter believes that had she not ran in and screamed, her mother could have been killed.
“If I hadn't come out of the bathroom, then she probably wouldn't be here today,” the woman's daughter said.
Once the attacker fled, a next-door neighbor heard the victim cry for help.
"She was yelling my name, ‘Mary, Mary, help me. Help me -- thief!” said Mary Shamon, who lives next to the victim.
She told NBC 7/39 she then jumped into her van and followed the attacker as he ran off. She says she was hoping to catch him.
“I wanted to push him up against a wall with the car and call police,” Shamon said.
The man was able to get away. Police said the attacker was dressed in all black clothing and had his face covered. He's described as being in his late teens to early 20s, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build.
Lt. Tim Henton of the El Cajon Police Department said that they recovered some physical evidence and asked anyone with any information about the attack to please call the police.
"Because the suspect didn't steal anything, was trying to move the victim to another part of the residence, we think it may have been going towards a sexual assault though it did not end up that way," Henton said.
According to police, the attacker entered the home through an unlocked window. They are urging people to safeguard themselves in their homes by locking doors and windows."
